Samantha Busch, the widow of NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, broke her silence about her late husband’s shocking death last month.
“As a family, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you,” Samantha, 40, wrote via Instagram on Friday, June 5. “The prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives. While our hearts are absolutely shattered, we have felt God’s presence and arms wrapped tightly around us through each and every one of you.”
Kyle died on May 21 after being found “unresponsive” in a Chevrolet racing simulator. According a death certificate exclusively obtained by Us Weekly, Kyle had pneumonia for “days or weeks” before his death, which progressed into sepsis.
“The love that has surrounded our family during this unimaginable time has brought comfort in the middle of so much pain,” Samantha shared. “Knowing the impact Kyle had on others and seeing how they are honoring him through each unique act of generosity is a true testament to how special Kyle is to so many people. There are moments when the weight of this loss feels impossible to carry, yet time and time again God, through you all, has shown us we are not alone.”
She continued, “From family and friends to fans and complete strangers, thank you for showing up for us. Thank you for loving our family so well. Thank you for loving Kyle. Thank you for honoring him.”
Kyle and Samantha were married for 15 years and shared two children together: son Brexton, 11, and daughter Lennix, 4.
“We may never find the words to fully express what your support has meant to us, but please know that we are deeply grateful,” Samantha’s post concluded.
The lifestyle blogger first crossed paths with Kyle at a racing event in 2007. The pair began dating shortly after and tied the knot in December 2010, going on to welcome Brexton on May 10, 2015, and Lennix via surrogate on May 18, 2022.
Nearly eight years before his death, Samantha praised Kyle for being her “rock” amid life’s hardships during an interview with People. She said their relationship was tested while facing fertility struggles, revealing that suffering a miscarriage in late November 2018 broke her heart and made her experience a wave of emotions.
Prior to the arrival of their daughter Lennix, Samantha had gone through in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments to conceive their first child, Brexton.
“There were times when we were trying [to get pregnant] and we weren’t even speaking,” she told People in 2020. “After the miscarriage [in November 2018], there were days that I was like, ‘I don’t think we are going to make it at this point.’ We were fighting every single day about everything.”
Going to therapy and leaning on their faith in God ultimately brought the couple closer together. Samantha said she always felt honored to know a side of Kyle that many didn’t get to see when he was speeding toward greatness.
“So many people only know the aggressive and strong-willed side of him that he shows when he is on the track. But the Kyle that I know is so different from that. Every time I feel like I’m falling apart, he picks me back up again,” she fondly shared.
Kyle was not only a celebrated professional race car driver, but also a proud dad.
The two-time Cup champion celebrated his son’s 11th birthday in a final social media post shared on Sunday, May 18.
“Happy Birthday Brexton!!!” he gushed in the caption while including sentimental photos including Brexton following his footsteps in racing gear, as well as an image of the father-son warmly embracing on the racetrack. “Your mom & I are so proud of who you’re turning out to be! You’re the best kid on & off the track, you amaze us every day. Keep doing what you’re doing and there is no limit to what you’ll accomplish! Love you buddy!”
Days before, he shared a loving message for his daughter on May 10. “Happy 3rd Birthday Lennix! Can’t believe how much you’ve grown this past year! It’s unbelievable how smart you are! I’m ready for our next tea party, and make-up night! Mommy and me love you so much!🫶🏻.”
