Landry Kiffin is speaking out after she said she was sent photos of vulgar banners from around the Ole Miss campus relating to her and a former Rebels football player.
“I normally don’t respond to any hateful posts around game days, but this one actually hurts,” Kiffin, 22, said in a TikTok video posted Wednesday, September 16. “I’m still a student at Ole Miss. I’ve loved my time here, and I love Ole Miss. So that’s what kind of makes this all even more upsetting.”
She continued, “I opened my phone this morning to pictures of banners on houses around Oxford posted on different accounts saying really inappropriate things about me and with somebody that genuinely I have never met in my life, which makes it even more frustrating to say the least.”
Landry is the daughter of Louisiana State University head football coach Lane Kiffin, who came to LSU last November from Ole Miss, controversially leaving Oxford before the College Football Playoff. Landry remains a student at Ole Miss, and her actual boyfriend, Whit Weeks, is a linebacker for LSU.
Lane, 51, shares Landry, as well as daughter Pressley and son Knox, with ex-wife Layla Reaves.
“I think that turning a girl into the punch line of a sexual joke because you’re upset at somebody she’s related to should not be OK,” Landry said. “I understand emotions are high this week and people are upset, but I am my own person.”
She added, “I’ll just never understand how someone can feel good about themselves putting such vulgar things about a girl on a giant banner hanging from their house. I feel like that’s really mind-blowing to me. I just hope people realize there is an actual person behind the jokes that they make.”
The alleged banners came during a week in which Ole Miss is getting ready to host LSU in front of what is sure to be a raucous crowd on Saturday, September 19. Not only will it be a primetime matchup between two top 10 teams, but it will be Lane’s first game back in Oxford after he left players and fans furious with his departure.
“I guess there’s real safety issues and stuff, so there’s people that have a plan for that, it is what it is,” he told reporters on Monday, September 14. “But I told the players today, you don’t have anything to worry about as far as attention on you all week. There’s so much attention and hatred on me, you just get to go play.”
To prepare for the game, Oxford police will have an increased presence around the 64,000-seat Vaught–Hemingway Stadium.
“The safety of our campus community and visitors is always a priority,” Daniel Sanford, director of Ole Miss University Police and Campus Safety, said in a statement to The Athletic. “While we cannot share specific security measures for safety reasons, University Police are working closely with local and state law enforcement partners to provide a safe and secure game-day environment.”
