New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is opening up about his absence from the team in recent days, revealing he has experienced “unexplainable” medical issues.
“Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days,” Henderson, 24, shared in an update via Instagram on Friday, November 6. “During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.”
The Ohio State alum missed the Patriots’ Week 8 game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, November 1, due to what the team described as “an illness.” He had previously been listed in New England’s injury report on October 29 after only completing two practices that week, per the NFL. (The Patriots defeated the Dolphins, 24–19, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.)
Henderson has since been kept away from practicing with his fellow Patriots ahead of their home game against the Green Bay Packers at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, November 8.
In Friday’s statement, Henderson stressed that his “health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities.”
“I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions,” he wrote. “I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health.”
TreVeyon credited his wife, Mackenzie Henderson, for standing by him as he faced uncertainty about his health. (The athlete confirmed he’d tied the knot with Mackenzie in February after originally connecting through TikTok during his sophomore year at Ohio State.)
“I want to thank my wife for being by my side throughout all of this, and most importantly, I want to thank Jesus for giving me a peace that surpasses all understanding,” his statement read. “Despite all of this, my heart rejoices in The Lord and my heart is at peace knowing that He is always faithful and His promise of Romans 8:28 always remain true. ‘We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.’”
The NFL player continued, “The purpose of trials in life is not to drive us away from God, but to only bring us closer. May God’s Will be done, not mine.”
TreVeyon closed his statement by requesting “continued prayers and privacy” as he focuses on his recovery.
“My wife and I are deeply grateful for family and loved ones, the New England Patriots organization, my agent, my medical team, teammates, and everyone who has offered prayers, encouragement, and support,” he wrote.
Neither the Patriots nor TreVeyon have offered any further details about a potential return to the field at this stage.
TreVeyon was selected by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, after being part of the Buckeyes’ College Football Championship team that same year. He earned 203 rushing yards on 52 carries this season prior to his injury.
