Eleven–time Olympic medalist Simone Biles knows she’s more than just a football wife — so she’s unbothered by her latest label.
“It just doesn’t bother me because I know who I am and what I’ve accomplished outside of it,” Biles, 29, exclusively told Us of being labeled a “WAG,” the popular acronym used to describe “wives and girlfriends” of professional athletes.
The decorated American gymnast has been married to NFL safety Jonathan Owens since 2023. Owens, 31, is currently playing for his fourth team after signing a one-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts in March.
“It doesn’t matter when somebody’s like, ‘Oh, Simone’s one of the WAGs,’” Biles, who is promoting her new Arcutis Biotherapeutics’ “Skin to Believe In” campaign, continued. “Don’t care. I know I’ve done great things on an Olympic level and for the mental health community, foster [care] community, all of this stuff. To me, it doesn’t seem derogatory because I know exactly who I am.”
Biles added, “I don’t care what you call me. I’ve done what I’ve done.”
While Biles is an ardent supporter of her husband’s career, she told Us that she “will not be traveling to away games this year” as he suits up for the Colts.
“Last year was the first year I went to every single game,” she explained. “That was really hard. I wanted to be there and show up because he shows up for me.”
Biles continued, “I really wanted to be there and do a whole entire season. So I did it. Baby, I’m going to stay at home this year so I can still work those [road] weekends.”
While she cheers on Owens from near and far, Biles is also encouraging the roughly 36 million Americans living with inflammatory skin conditions — including seborrheic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis (the most common form of eczema) — to look into their treatment options.
“I was literally scratching and itching and bleeding for years,” Biles explained. “I was like, ‘Girl, just go to the dermatologist.’ But I think admitting that you have that is the hardest step. After admitting it, I was like, ‘OK, I need to go see a doctor.’”
After being diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis on her face and scalp and eczema on her arms, Biles was prescribed ZORYVE foam for her seborrheic dermatitis and ZORYVE cream to manage her eczema.
“It was kind of frustrating because after I admitted I had it, it was so easy to call the dermatologist and she was like, ‘Yep, I just sent off your prescription,’” Biles said. “All of the years of bleeding and scratching and it was such a simple solution. But I think we’re so ashamed that we’re going through something that we can’t fix ourselves.”
