The Trump Administration has weighed in on Travis Kelce and the $35 million Ponzi scheme he seems to have found himself wrapped up in.
“This is why we do what we do,” the White House wrote via X on Thursday, September 17, over a Fox News story about Kelce’s misfortune. “Seems like a good time to re-up the work of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud: identifying fraud & protecting Americans.”
The White House added, “Oh and it looks like the next draft pick to join the Task Force is @tkelce!”
Kelce, 36, was named by prosecutors in federal court as one of the victims of Siddharth Jawahar’s fraud scheme during his sentencing on Tuesday, September 15. Jawahar, 38, was sentenced to 11 years in prison and ordered to pay $31 million in restitution to his victims after pleading guilty to three counts of wire fraud in January.
“Jawahar used money from new investors to repay older investors and to fuel an extravagant lifestyle that included travel on private jets, stays at luxury hotels, a luxury apartment in Austin and New York City, memberships at multiple private clubs across the country, spending sprees at clothing stores and expensive outings at fancy restaurants,” the Justice Department said in a release announcing his sentencing on Tuesday.
It is not known how much money Kelce lost in the alleged scheme. Us has reached out to him for comment.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has also kept his political views to himself over the years, but with the NFL season just getting underway, it doesn’t seem like the ideal time for Kelce to sign up for the task force.
Kelce’s wife, Taylor Swift, has been more willing to share her views. She publicly endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris before the 2024 election when she faced current President Donald Trump.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift, 36, wrote via Instagram at the time. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”
She then signed her post off with a not-so-subtle dig at Vice President JD Vance, writing, “With love and hope, Taylor Swift Childless Cat Lady.”
