US Open champion Wyndham Clark has been dating his girlfriend, Emily Tanner, for seven months – and is already prepared to take for the next step in their relationship.
“I’m going to be in Cabo next week,” Clark, 32, told reporters on Tuesday, August 25, at the Tour Championship revealing his plans to pop the question in the offseason. “So I’ll be down there having fun. Presidents Cup, I’m playing a tournament in Japan.”
He continued, “Hopefully get engaged and then going to South Africa for a tournament as well. Hopefully, she says yes.”
Tanner, 31, told followers during an Instagram Q&A in July that she and Clark met in January, adding that the pair “fell pretty fast.”
Clark told Us about the origins of their relationship in June, saying he had been a fan of Tanner for “quite a long time” before meeting her at a party through a mutual friend.
“I was with a buddy of mine, and one of his friends was there, and he was like, ‘Hey, man, I got this girl that is a good friend of mine and she’s recently single and she’s accomplished,’” Clark recalled. “He said all of these nice things. I go, ‘Oh, cool, can I see a picture of her?’ He shows me Emily, and I go, ‘No way, I’ve had a crush on her forever.’”
They went on their first date in San Diego soon after and have been “inseparable ever since.”
Clark and Tanner went public with their relationship in April when Tanner caddied for him at the Masters Par 3 contest at Augusta National.
“Par 3 with my good luck charm,” Clark wrote via Instagram alongside a carousel of photos featuring the two of them.
‘My love ❤️,” Tanner replied.
While Tanner was only Clark’s on-course caddie for the day, he told Us that his girlfriend is constantly by his side off the course.
“She’s a huge part of my success,” he said. “We joke and call her my at-home caddie because she helps me with everything off the course. She just makes me so happy. We have so much fun together. When I’m away from golf, I’m able to decompress and not think about it because we truly just enjoy each other’s time. She’s amazing. She makes everything stress-free for me. She’s my biggest supporter, and she’s always out there watching me.”
He added, “We just love spending time together. It doesn’t matter what it is. We travel a ton, obviously, for my job, but we also love to travel together. We love the beach. We do anything and everything.”
