While it was her amazing music that fans will miss most, Amy Winehouse was also a major beauty and fashion icon. Sure, her look was over-the-top and kind of nutty at times, but her hair, makeup and wardrobe choices were as unique as her soulful voice.
In memory of Winehouse, who passed away on Saturday in London at the age of 27, here's a breakdown of that iconic style, which inspired many designers, stylists and fellow musicians.
Her Beehive Hairstyle: The singer's signature 'do seemed to grow with her fame and she often accessorized it with flowers and headbands. Her hair became such a "thing" that in 2007, Karl Lagerfeld sent the models down the Chanel runway with teased bouffants (and tons of eyeliner). "She's a style icon," he said at the time of his London show. "She is a beautiful, gifted artist. And I very much like her hairdo. I took it as an inspiration.
Her Extreme Eyeliner: Winehouse took winged liner to another level, sporting a cat-eye look that usually extended far beyond her brows. The '60s effect complemented her aforementioned beehive hairstyle as well as her retro fashion sense.
Her Ballet Shoes: While most stars wear sky-high stilettos and platforms, Winehouse frequently stepped out in plain flat ballet slippers. Although, for performances she typically paired her sexy pin-up girl dresses with peep-toe heels. She was also a huge fan of Fred Perry, and in 2010 she collaborated with the brand on a collection of surprisingly demure tops, skirts and dresses.
Her Tattoos: During her all-too-brief career, Winehouse got seriously into body ink, racking up more than 13 tattoos including an angel, a horseshoe, an anchor and her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil's first name on her chest.
