“Before I had kids, my bag was clean,” Betsy Brandt says of her J.Crew tote. Now the star of CBS’ Life in Pieces (Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. ET) is a prepared parent: “In case I need to occupy them, I like to have Hot Wheels cars, See’s lollipops, and a deck of cards.” The mom of Josephine, 10, and Freddie, 7 (with husband Grady Olsen), shows Us Weekly her necessities.

Take the Bait

“I used to have a pet crawfish, so my friend made a mold of its claws and bronzed a key chain for me out of it.”

The Rx Files

“Because I had a cold recently, I keep Singer’s throat spray. I also have cough drops and a first-aid kit with Neosporin, Band-Aids, and Kleenex in case anything comes up.”

Lashing Out

“I don’t wear a lot of makeup, but I live by Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara. I wear it on the red carpet because it doesn’t smudge — and I always smudge!”

Scribbles and Giggles

“My kids like to write on the back of my scripts and shooting schedules. Right now, I have a page with the Hangman words ‘sandwich’ and ‘backpack’ and ‘Greenblatt’s.’”

A Scents of Tradition

“There’s a New Mexico resort called Los Poblanos that makes lavender-scented products. I rub my kids’ backs with the lotion at night. It feels like a bit of home for them wherever we go.”

A black Prada wallet, credit cards, cash, keys, an iPhone, L’Oréal concealer, Benefit brow gel, Sugar lip gloss, Dior lip gloss, Ferragamo sunglasses, Ray-Ban sunglasses, Dove dark chocolates, Royal Apothic lotion, Elizabeth & James Nirvana perfume, rubber bands, The New York Times, Whole Foods mints, an iPod Shuffle, Advil, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a Rite-Aid receipt, a grocery list, Aveda lotion, and pens.
