Fit for a king — a Burger King, that is! Joel Burger and Ashley King had it their way on Saturday, July 18, when they said “I do” at a wedding sponsored by — you guessed it! — fast-food giant Burger King.
The serendipitously named lovebirds exchanged vows in Jacksonville, Ill., before around 400 guests, who sipped from mason jars bearing the Burger King logo during the couple’s reception.
Burger, King, and their entire wedding party received the company’s trademark cardboard crowns, which they donned for wedding photos after the ceremony. Each of the groomsmen also wore Burger King cuff links, socks, and T-shirts under their suits, which they revealed in a Superman-esque group picture.
“Mr. Burger and Ms. King? Is this real life?” the company tweeted at the time, along with a plea for followers to help them find the happy couple.
Days later, BK posted a follow-up: a video conversation they’d had with the bride and groom-to-be. During the chat, a Burger King spokesperson revealed they were putting together a few surprises for the couple, including customized yo-yos and mason jars.
The biggest surprise, though — the Whopper, if you will — was a note reading: “Burger King wants to help give you a whopper of a wedding. In other words: It’s on us. The wedding, that is…”
