“All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe and redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception,” the brand stated in a press release. “One year ago, he boldly chose to launch his Instagram to the world, using transformative, dynamic makeup looks to showcase the many facets of his personality, serving as an inspiration to women, men, guys and girls who might have been afraid to do the same.”

He Embodied a Snapchat Filter

It’s one thing to use the butterfly crown filter, but Charles re-created the effect using makeup in a September 15 Instagram post. Using Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Moon Glow Kit, NYX Cosmetics’ Jumbo Eye in Black Bean, Occco Cosmetics glitter and Morphe Brushes’ 35B palette, he created a blue sparkling look that makes our hearts flutter.

A fan turned his galactic glam into a funny meme on February 6.

He Bares All

THE POWER OF MAKEUP ??⚡️ ____ I needed to do this post. The past few days of my life have been some of the worst in a very long time and I’ve been extremely upset and out of it. I had a boy I really cared about take advantage of me to a whole new level and it both hurt me, but also absolutely crushed me & my confidence. I cried for the first time in years and was extremely lost and just overall angry. I wanted to do this post now that I’ve grown and learned from the situation to show you guys that confidence is key. You should NEVER let anyone get in the way of your goals or more importantly your happiness. Makeup makes me so happy and feel so powerful and strong and it’s truly an escape. Makeup is truly an art. It’s a form of expression, it’s a way to feel beautiful, and to make people gasp and look exactly how they want to. It’s more than just wanting to impress someone or look pretty. We do makeup for ourselves, NOT for the pleasure of anyone else. It’s so important to be confident and love yourself no matter who is loving you back. Please learn from my mistake and always put your own self confidence and self love first, no matter how cute a guy is or no matter how someone may make you feel. I am worth more and so are you. ? ____ face is @makeupforeverofficial HD foundation stick. I contoured using my @makeupgeekcosmetics contour pan in warm medium. Highlight is @anastasiabeverlyhills glow kit in “that glow” with the shade sunburst. Brows are @benefitcosmetics ka-BROW cream gel set with gimme brow. Eyes are @morphebrushes 35O & lashes are @esqido lashmopolitan. Lips are @nyxcosmetics liquid lingerie in baby doll.

Keeping it real. In a June 6 post, the teen made up half of his face, leaving the other half free of his usual foundation, liner and brow pencil.

“I had a boy I really cared about take advantage of me to a whole new level and it both hurt me, but also absolutely crushed me & my confidence,” he explained. “I wanted to do this post now that I’ve grown and learned from the situation to show you guys that confidence is key … Makeup makes me so happy and feel so powerful and strong and it’s truly an escape.”

He Gets Comical

“Straight outta marvel,” he captioned this comic book–inspired look on October 24, 2015. “I used @makeupforeverofficial HD foundation for the base. I used @nyxcosmetics jumbo eye pencil for the dots. For the black details I used @anastasiabeverlyhills black gel liner. To line my water line and for my lower lash line I used @ofracosmetics white gel liner in the shade of white rabbit. Finally, I used @anastasiabeverlyhills liquid lipstick in the shade heathers for my lips.”

He Slayed in His Senior Photos

I mean are we really that surprised? ??

“So I retook my senior photos & brought my ring light with me so my highlight would be poppin. I love being extra,” he captioned the most fabulous yearbook portrait ever on September 5.
