Not keeping things low-key. Moments after professing his undying love for Rihanna at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards at Madison Square Garden in NYC on Sunday, August 28, Drake tripped over the “Work” singer’s voluminous gown.

For her final performance, Rihanna, 28, stunned in a head-turning Alexandre Vauthier Couture dress with an embellished let and exaggerated train. She kept the jaw-dropping ensemble on to accept the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award from Drake, who praised the singer’s creativity throughout her professional career.

As the “Rude Boy” singer and Drake, 29, made their way backstage post-award, he proceeded to loose his balance and nearly fall over Rihanna’s designer gown. Thankfully, he regained his composure and no harm was done to the dress (or the Fenty designer).

MTV cameras didn’t catch the moment, but luckily a fan did. “When Rihanna & Drake walk by NEXT TO YOU!!!🙌🏾😩😍💕 My life is MADEEEEEEEEEE💕” Sandra Jay, who was backstage at the time, captioned the clip via Instagram.

While the near-fall is memorable, it’s Drake’s feelings for Rihanna that has fans buzzing. As he presented Rihanna with the final award of the night, the “One Dance” rapper shared that he has been infatuated with the Barbados native since meeting her by chance in Toronto 11 years ago.

“We love [her] music, which could change styles from album to album. We love the videos, which change their artistic vision from year to year. But most of all, we love the woman, who hasn’t changed since day one. She’s someone I’ve been in love with since I was 22 years old,” Drake proclaimed. “She’s one of my best friends in the world. All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her even though she’s younger than me. She’s a living, breathing legend in our industry. Ladies and gentlemen, the recipient of the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award for 2016: Rihanna.”
