We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again: Drew Barrymore is the ultimate when it comes to being a celebrity beauty guru. And that doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. She is the founder of Flower Beauty after all. For the launch of her accessible and uber fun beauty collection at Ulta, Drew held an intimate dinner in NYC to celebrate — and Stylish got the scoop from her about the new products hitting the shelves in Ulta, her cool multi-tasking beauty trick her nighttime beauty routine, even her biggest beauty regrets. Check out the interview below!

Stylish: Congrats! How does it feel to be in Ulta and did you change anything about the line to go with the new store?

Drew Barrymore: Well, we actually made several exclusives that you can only get here, the wanderlust eye shadow palettes, the full face palettes and the holographic galactic glow palette.

Stylish: I love that one. What products have you been using in different and interesting ways that people wouldn’t think of?

DB: Well, I’m glad you asked! I’m wearing our lip liner on the inside of my waterline. I use that instead of white, which is usually put there — that can get chalky looking.  White just doesn’t look natural there, so I use a nude lip liner — I like a nude, pinky, peachy color in the water line. Everything should we multi purpose, if you have an eye shadow, use it as a contour, use a lip on your eyelids as a shadow. I created this so people can fun with it and play around, there are no rules!

Stylish: What is one beauty thing you did before that you regret?

DB: I don’t regret anything I did beauty-wise. I wore eye shadow out to the temples when I was 10 years old and I still love it, I’ve only regretted fashion moments, I don’t think you can make mistakes with makeup. I think it’s all fair game. I’m glad makeup isn’t judged that same way that fashion is. There are so many tutorials and because so many people can create looks there’s a lack of “you shouldn’t do this” and I find that so liberating. I feel like the fashion game on the red carpet — you’re putting yourself out there to get ripped apart and it’s not like that with makeup

Stylish: What’s your nightly skincare regime?

DB: I love acids and exfoliation right now. I steep and immerse myself in exfoliators. I love Retin A and I’ll add some hyaluronic acid for hydration and I’ll go from there.  I have sensitive skin so it’s a process, but I use a product for a week or two and then see what’s working. I also use Obagi Number Three as a blender — I like to mix that with Retin A so it’s less abrasive on my sensitive skin. That way it I’ve cut it down so I don’t get any burning or stinging after. I love the Obagi line — it’s old school, but  I use the Obagi number three, I think it’s a blender, I like to mix that with Retin a so it’s less abrasive on my more sensitive skin and it cuts it down so it doesn’t burn. I love Obagi products — their Clear formulation is very brighting. It’s old school but it still works.
