Adopting a more chic, sophisticated style of late, Drew Barrymore isn't one to chase after hot fashion trends. In fact, the new mom of daughter Olive says her sartorial philosophy is to impress no one but herself when she gets dressed in the morning.

"I think the scariest thing about fashion is being worried about what people are going to say because that might hinder your playfulness — not a good idea," Barrymore, 38, explained to reporters at a Feb. 19 event showcasing Bvlgari's collection of Elizabeth Taylor's jewelry, adding that she isn't afraid to take fashion risks and advises others to do the same. "Crash, burn, enjoy, live, life is short," she says. "Have fun [with fashion]."

Marrying Will Kopelman in June 2012 wearing a Chanel gown she declared to be "timeless," the busy mom — who recently launched her own cosmetics line, Flower Beauty, at Wal-Mart — now chooses multipurpose wardrobe staples instead of the wacky, wild outfits she was once known for. "You can never have enough pairs of jeans," advises the actress.

"You can put it with a blazer, with a sweatshirt, flip flops, boots . . . jeans are always a wise investment in your closet, especially a pair that really suits your body and makes you feel good about yourself."

Barrymore already has an idea of when she'll let daughter Olive, 5 months, start experimenting with her look — and it's not for some time yet. "Kids shouldn't wear makeup, I strongly feel that way," Barrymore told Us Weekly's Gwen Flamberg. "You should be a kid for as long as possible. I think when you start getting in your teens, then all bets are off, and you should just play, play, play. And figure out what kind of woman you want to be — the training wheels are off. Starting in your teen years, absolutely go for it, and start to discover who you are."
