Last week we discovered a series of mysterious black-and-white videos starring Katie Holmes. And now the secret behind the mini movies is out: The 32-year-old actress shot the short film, called "The Decision" as part of a new campaign for John Frieda Precision Foam Colour. Her glossy brunette shade and retro waves are so gorgeous that we had to get the behind-the-scenes scoop.
"Katie is probably the most gracious and kind person I have had the pleasure to work with. The hairstyle was labor intensive and she sat patiently," celeb stylist Harry Josh tells UsMagazine.com of the '40s-inspired look he gave Holmes for the film.

Here, he shares the step-by-step tips for recreating it:
1: Start by applying mousse to wet hair (Josh recommends John Frieda Full Repair Protecting Root Lift Foam). "The rule of thumb with mousse is to always use more than you think you’ll need, ranging in size from a golf ball to a grapefruit depending on the length of your hair," he says.
2: Blow hair dry completely using a high-quality paddle brush such as Mason Pearson, then make a deep side part.
3: Wind hair around a small 3/4-inch curling iron to create ringlets. Be sure to wrap each section in the same direction so the waves are uniform.
5: Allow hair to cool down for approximately 20 minutes then gently brush out the ringlets
6: Finish by calming any flyaways (Josh uses John Frieda Full Repair Touch-up Flyaway Tamer.)
7: Finally, hold the style by spraying a strong hairspray
