The Globes will be golden, the carpet will be red, and the stars’ teeth will be impossibly white!
While we’ll predictably be swooning over the gorgeous dresses and hot men in tuxes at the 2015 Golden Globes, airing on Sunday, Jan. 11, we’re most curious about Hollywood’s biggest mystery: Given the endless coffee runs celebs are spotted on, just how do they keep their teeth so pearly white?!

Short answer: They have the help of professionals. But now, so do you! We chatted with some of Hollywood’s top dentists and rounded up our favorite tips. Read on for the easy way to get—and keep!—an A-list smile.

1. Invest in an Electric Toothbrush
As a dentist to the stars (Liza Minnelli and Real Housewives of New York City like Sonja Morgan, to name a few), Dr. Marc Lazare insists that the road to a whiter smile starts with an electric toothbrush. “One of my favorites is the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean ($190, Target.com), which can help to remove extrinsic stain and brighten your smile in one week,” Lazare tells Us Weekly.
2. Eat a Banana—and Keep the Peel!
New York-based cosmetic dentists Marc Lowenberg, Gregg Lituchy, and Brian Kantor, who work together in a group, say there’s much more to your banana than just a healthy snack. “Banana peels have been proven to naturally whiten teen, so rip off a piece of the peel and get started!” they say.

For one minute, rub the inside of the peel along your top teeth, then repeat on the bottom. Hold your lips open for about 10 minutes, then brush, and you’ll be good to go!
3. Keep Vaseline in Your Purse
Lowenberg, Lituchy, and Kantor (clients include members of the Rolling Stones) also suggest dabbing just a touch of Vaseline to your top and bottom teeth before drinking something particularly staining (like tea or wine). The moisturizer is insoluble to water, so dark liquids will swim right around your teeth.
4. Sip Everything Through Straws
Additionally, for the tea and coffee lovers out there, make sure to wait until your drink has cooled a bit, because, as Lazare notes, “you tend to hold liquids in your mouth longer [when they’re hot], giving them more time to stain your teeth.” Add a little milk to your drink, and you’ll also cut down on stains.
5. Fall in Love With a Bold Lipstick
And make sure it has blue undertones! In contrast to your white teeth, Lowenberg, Lituchy, and Kantor say that the lipstick will make your teeth look even brighter. (As if you needed an excuse to buy another statement red!)
6. Don’t Be Afraid to Go Pro!
“Over-the-counter whitening products such as whitening toothpastes, rinses, flosses, and chewing gums are relatively ineffective at best,” Dr. Lazare (sadly) contends, so if you can make it in to your dentist’s office for a professional whitening treatment—especially if you have a big life moment coming up—then go for it!
Lazare prefers the Philips Zoom QuickPro whitening method, because he says, “It’s so quick, you could tack it right onto the end of a regular check-up appointment.” Bonus for those with sensitive teeth: The in-office treatment won’t leave your teeth with that uncomfortable tingling feeling. As soon as you’re out, you’ll be ready to take on your day.
