Gwyneth Paltrow Talks Aging: “I’d Rather Die Than Study My Face”

Talk about a rare commodity in Hollywood! 

As an actress over 40, Gwyneth Paltrow has experienced her fair share of scrutiny when it comes to style, staying in shape, and looking good on the red carpet — and she handles it all pretty well. Still, the Goop founder, 42, talked about self-acceptance in a new interview with Stylist magazine. 

 

"I know it’s a cliché, but I really do subscribe to the 'age gracefully' thing," she told the UK magazine. "You can fight it to a degree, but I accept the beauty of being a grown woman and the wisdom that comes with it."

 

And with that, the Web Therapy actress knows it’s a waste of time to freak out about her appearance. "I’m not the type to look in the mirror and study my looks," Paltrow explained. "I’d rather die than be studying my face like that! I just brush my teeth and get dressed and get everyone up." 

The busy mom of Apple, 10, and Moses, 8, with ex-husband Chris Martin, feels lucky to share friendships with other women over 40 who embrace their natural beauty. 

"Those of my female friends that are my age are all happy about where they are and that’s really nice to see — whether it’s Stella [McCartney] or Mary who’s been my best friend since I was 4, or Cameron [Diaz], or my other best friend from since I was 11," she said. "All these women are beautiful, happy to be women and are contributing something. That’s empowering to me." 

So what does she actually do to maintain her youthful glow? "I do try — especially in the last five years — to be good about washing my face properly, then exfoliating and moisturizing before bed," she said, naming Sonya Dakar’s Flash Facial and Organic Omega Booster as some of her favorite products. 

She added, "Taking an inside-out approach to beauty has always been my philosophy — that and sleep, good nutrition, and a bit of exercise — especially when it comes to skin."
