From the Victoria's Secret Angels' signature cascading bombshell waves on the runway Tuesday night to the Kardashian sisters' matching glossy manes on the season premiere of Kourtney and Kim Take New York on Sunday, long, thick hair is having a major television moment.

And while it's no secret that many celebs rely on pricey extensions and clip-in pieces to enhance their hair, it's possible to actually grow lusher locks.

"It's key to create the ideal environment for optimal hair growth," says Elizabeth Phillips, a trichologist at the Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic in New York City, where specialists treat both medical and cosmetic issues relating to scalp and hair health.

That means getting more sleep, upping your lean protein intake (plenty of fish, meat and eggs), and popping a vitamin that has Biotin (vitamin B7) daily to help keep hair from falling out prematurely.

She also recommends regular scalp massages (three times a week for two minutes pre-shower) since increased circulation to the area helps new hair sprout through a layer of dirt, oil, and old skin cells. Weekly deep conditioning treatments are great for adding moisutre and boosting shine, and ask your stylist to give you micro trims every three months to get rid off just the split ends without losing significant length.
