When it comes to hair removal, you have several options, but shaving is by far the easiest, fastest and most convenient method. Here, Lauren Zeifman, RPA-C, Founder of Park Avenue Skin Solutions in New York City reveals how to get the closet shave possible.
Save shaving for last. Instead of reaching for your razor right away, shave towards the end of your shower. The steam and water will help hydrate and soften your skin so the hair is easier to swipe away.
Use a moisturizing shave gel. A super hydrating cream or gel creates a barrier between the skin and the razor for added protection. Plus, it helps the razor to glide over skin for a closer, smoother shave. Try: Skintimate Moisturizing Cream Shave ($4.19, drugstore.com)
Upgrade your razor. Don't settle for a razor with less than four blades, which remove hair in a single pass so you don't have to repeatedly drag the blade over your skin. If you have sensitive skin, work with the grain. Otherwise, pull the skin taut and and shave in the opposite direction of hair growth. Try: Schick Quattro For Women ($10.49, drugstore.com)
Soothe your skin. Pat your legs dry and immediately slather them with your favorite body moisturizer. If you still get redness and irritation, apply a cream formula lotion that has hydrocortisone 1% in it to help prevent inflammation and bumps.
