What do Khloé Kardashian and Ariana Grande have in common? They both went platinum blonde this summer with the help of Tracey Cunningham. “Platinum blonde is beachy and sexy,” she tells Us Weekly. But be sure to take your time while going lighter for a seamless makeover. “It’s always a process,” she says. “The more gradual the transition is, the more natural your hair will look.”
Look to Kardashian, 32, as an example. The former brunette, who debuted a full head of honey blond locks last March, showed off her brighter strands in a Saturday, July 2, Instagram post. “Khloé is the lightest of the Kardashian ladies, so her dye job pretty much took her back to her youth,” Cunningham reveals.
Grande opted for a major transformation to celebrate her birthday. The “Dangerous Woman” singer turned 23 on Sunday, June 26, and turned to Cunningham for a dramatic makeover. “It worked with her luminescent, youthful face,” she said. “So we decided we’d lighten her up for her new year.”
Feeling inspired? If you’re thinking about switching things up like your favorite celebs, Cunningham suggests two important products. Find a salon that offers Olaplex Bond Multiplier during the appointment. “It's a hair-color-change life saver!” Cunningham praises the line of staples that promises to limit hair damage. “I use Olaplex during the color process in the salon, then I always recommend my celebrities to use the Olaplex No. 3 for an at-home treatment once a week. It's a hair strengthening treatment and my go-to product.”
And when you’re washing, “always use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners such as Redken Blonde Idol,” she notes. “This will make sure that your color doesn’t fade in between salon visits. It doesn't strip your new color, either.”
