Have you been dreaming of the MAC x Selena collection? If so, you’re in luck! The makeup brand will be available exclusively to #MACSelect subscribers (the members-only program with benefits like free shipping and samples) before the line officially drops in October.
News of the collection was released last July after fans of the late Tejano singer, who was murdered at the age of 23 in 1995, rallied for it with online petitions. MAC heard their requests and confirmed the news in a statement. “Selena’s talent and beauty, inside and out, have left a colorful, meaningful impact in the world that has continued to grow over the last two decades,” MAC senior vice president James Gager said. “We have heard the passion and enthusiasm from her fans and wholeheartedly agree that her legacy embodies MAC’s philosophy.”
Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, gave devotees a sneak peek of the collection (which features products named after Selena’s songs) in a May Periscope video. “The Como La Flor lipstick is a beautiful red-tone color, a signature color that my sister would wear when performing onstage. There is a deeper tone that Selena loved to wear called Dreaming of You, and Amor Prohibido is a nude-tone lipstick,” she explained. The collection also includes a techno Cumbia Blush Duo in Ven Conmigo and Blunt and an Eye Shadow in Fotos y Recuerdos.
Suzette reflected on the “Dreaming of You” singer, who was immortalized in a 1997 biopic starring Jennifer Lopez, in the statement. “Helping to create this collection brings me back to all those late-night conversations on our tour bus when she spoke of having her own makeup line one day,” she said. “If Selena were here, she would be beyond ecstatic to have this happening. History is being made.”
