Miss Jackson’s got the moves—and the styles!
After retiring from the red carpet for more than two years, Janet Jackson is set to make her grand return at the annual BET Awards on Sunday, June 28, and fans could not be more thrilled!
Being the iconic woman she is, Jackson, 49, has had a number of glorious styles during her three-plus decades in the spotlight. And although it’s nearly impossible to choose the “No Sleeep” singer’s best looks—between her red carpet, concert, and music video ensembles—it is possible to point out some of her most memorable.
Scroll down to see Us Weekly editors’ picks for Jackson’s five most memorable looks of all time!
Belle of the Ball (1983)
Just a baby! Jackson, the baby of her famous music family, released her self-titled debut album in 1982. One year later, Janet, then a sitcom starlet, was already hitting up awards shows—like the American Music Awards, here—dressed like the perfect ’80s princess.
Attention! (1990)
Ah, the “Rhythm Nation” era. As the pop sensation released the socially conscious single, she also donned a military-inspired ensemble to drive her statement home, and it became an instant classic.
Spiked Everything (1995)
Don’t stand too close! Janet’s big brother Michael retaliated against the media by releasing the hit single “Scream” with his little sister. The two rocked these fierce, textured tops for the music video. (Plus, that hair!)
Hello, Ladies! (2010)
Beyonce and Kim Kardashian‘s sheer dresses? Not even close. The “All for You” singer was rocking the peekaboo look (Lanvin, in this case) long before it became the norm. (And it should be noted, she did it with subtlety.)
White Goddess (2012)
And finally, the beauty slayed the scene in Emilio Pucci at the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala in Cannes, in this white gown with a keyhole cutout at the neckline and an up-to-there slit. #Flawless.
