The stunning issue, which hits newsstands May 5, reveals just how laid-back the 34-year-old royal was as she arrived for her photo session, and how she put everyone working on the issue completely at ease.

On arrival at the shoot, Prince William‘s wife joked with the magazine staff about what anyone who had spotted her and her unfinished hairdo must have be thinking.

She laughed at “how she must have appeared to anyone who saw her driving in the car in her rollers,” Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said.

And rather than parade in her royal finery, Duchess Kate was very eager to make sure the shoot reflected her “private existence,” opting to be photographed in jeans and T-shirts.

And Shulman paid tribute to her royal photography subject, revealing that the brunette beauty “posed uncomplaining, often in a thin cotton shirt” in the chilly Norfolk, England, location.

She added that Kate, who usually does her own makeup, was quite relaxed about allowing Vogue makeup artist Sally Branka free rein, “scarcely even checking herself in the mirror afterward.”
