Suri Cruise has long been toasted as one of the most fashionable celeb kids — her closet boasts Marni, Dior and Burberry, to name just a few top labels. But if you thought the 10-year-old took style cues from her equally chic mama, Katie Holmes, think again!

“No, absolutely not,” Holmes, 37, told Us Weekly at the Cartier Fifth Avenue Mansion’s New York Fashion Week reopening on Wednesday, September 7. “She has her own [sense of style].”
While that may be the case, the All We Had actress said that she has picked up one important fashion and beauty tip from her own mom, Kathleen, who attended as Holmes’ date. “[She taught me that] being true to yourself is beautiful,” the Dawson’s Creek alum (in a beaded Valentino gown) told Us.
However, Kathleen, in black and white separates with a tie neckline, thanked her daughters for any sartorial prowess she may possess. “I think the girls help me out. They taught me!” the mom of five (four of which are girls!) quipped.

Holmes, who wanted her mom by her side because it was the matriarch’s birthday, also spoke of her personal relationship with Cartier’s pieces. “Their jewelry is so timeless and accessible,” the Kennedys After Camelot actress, who has been known to sport the house’s watches and Love bracelets, told Us. “You can wear Cartier jewels day and night, and they all have so much meaning.”
