Always photo-ready, Kim Kardashian seems to never step out of the house without her dark, shiny locks in place and a set of mink-like lashes. But on Keeping Up with the Kardashians on Sunday night, we got an inside look at one of the E! star's unexpected beauty issues.

During the episode, Kardashian was diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin disorder that occurs in the form of red, flaky patches on the body — and a pestering beauty problem that her mother, Kris, has suffered from since the age of 30.

"People don't understand the pressure on me to look perfect," Karashian, 30, said during the episode. "When I gain a pound, it's in the headlines. Imagine what the tabloids would do to me if they saw all these spots?"

Luckily for Kardashian, her case is treatable — so long as she avoids anything that could stress her out. (Not an easy feat since she's currently planning a huge wedding bash for her nuptials to fiance Kris Humphries.)

"Psoriasis flares up during times of increased stress or illness, so it's important to manage stressors," Dr. Eric Schweiger of Schweiger Dermatology in NYC tells Us Weekly. In addition, Dr. Schweiger says that any form of trauma to the skin (like sunburn of even a scratch) can cause flare-ups.

To help treat the pesky skin disorder, Dr. Scweiger recommends using a moisturizer daily to help protect the barrier of the skin. "Your dermatologist can prescribe topical medications like cortisone creams that are easy to apply and can help the psoriasis flare resolve quickly. In severe cases of psoriasis, there are injectable medications called "biologics" and lasers that help to prevent and treat flares."
