Breaking: Baby North did not — we repeat, did not — wear makeup for her Vogue debut.
That’s right, the daughter of the “world’s most talked about couple” went barefaced with her adorable babyface.
“She didn’t need it! She is such a little cutie,” Aaron de Mey, makeup artist behind Kimye’s Vogue cover, tells Cosmopolitan.com.
Naturally, de Mey, Sephora’s Aristry Ambassador, did cop to using makeup on Kim Kardashian. “She has amazing lashes, so I chose to play them up along with creating a smoky look with chocolates, browns, taupes, and a little bit of gold on the inner corner of her eyes to make her eyes pop,” he said.
While Kardashian, 33, famously relies on contouring in her everyday makeup routine, de Mey stayed away from the technique for the cover shoot. “She has such a beautiful complexion and I really wanted that to show through, so I kept the rest of her face super clean and minimal when it came to the makeup,” he reveals.
Turns out, the cover girl and bride-to-be was relatively laid back when it came to her beauty look. “She was very open to something different, but Grace [Coddington] wanted to simplify her look because Kim is naturally gorgeous,” he says. “Grace also had couture dresses made for her that were very sophisticated and ladylike, so we wanted to keep her look fresh and young — almost like a twist on the style. Plus, she had the baby and Kanye with her in the pictures, so I wanted her to look realistic and not too untouchable.”
Where Kardashian was a breeze, her fiance was, shall we say, a bit more vocal. “He thought her makeup looked very beautiful, but definitely had opinions on the dresses and the styles he liked best, but it was in a supportive way — it was lovely to see them interact with each other.”
