Kim Kardashian's recently released CR Fashion Book magazine spread, shot by legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld while she was eight months pregnant, was a sight to behold: North West's then-expectant mom, 32, sported gold grills, jam-smeared lips and, naturally, her huge belly in a bra top, puffy jacket and bright pink gloves, among many other talked-about looks.
Not everyone loved the rather avant-garde images, but the magazine's editor Carine Roitfeld — formerly of French Vogue — sticks up for Kardashian and her late-pregnancy spread.
"I think people are very tough in fashion," Roitfeld told the New York Post's Page Six last Friday, Sept. 6 at the New York Fashion Week premiere of her documentary Mademoiselle C.
"When we photographed her pregnant — I love pregnant women — she was beautiful," the Frenchwoman raved of Kanye West's love. "She was beautiful to cover; she is beautiful inside."
Roitfeld also noted that landing Kardashian for her new magazine "gave us a lot of confidence, and I am thankful for that." Now that Kardashian has given birth to North, Roitfeld mused, "I think she's happy now. She has her baby, North, and I hope this will be a good souvenir for her."
