When Kourtney Kardashian decided to lighten her locks in Mid-March, the pregnant reality star took every precaution to ensure her unborn child wouldn't be harmed by any harsh chemicals.

"I did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor and took the proper precautions necessary," the 32-year-old blogged Monday. "I highlighted my hair, which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant, and not to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain any ammonia."

She added: "It is also recommended to be in a well-ventilated area as well as being at least in your second trimester, and I followed both of those rules. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I take caution in all the products I use all the time, but especially when pregnant."

The E! star, who's already mom to son Mason, 2, with longtime love Scott Disick, said she hadn't experimented with a different hair color in "over 10 years" and "thought it was time for some fun."

After her recent hair makeover, Kardashian plans to go back to her natural brunette hue. "I still am not sure how I feel about the color. I would say dark probably suits me best, but a change is always fun!" she blogged. "At this point, I don't want anything else on my hair besides sulfate free shampoo and conditioner."
