Kylie Jenner’s Hairstylist Chris Appleton Spills He Used Lime Crime Products for Her ‘Barbie Blonde’ Tresses

When it comes to hair color, Kylie Jenner has tried them all, but her mane man Chris Appleton took to Instagram on Tuesday, November 6, to shed some light on exactly how he went about creating the golden hue she was seen rocking in her own Instagram Stories yesterday. And, as it turns out, his secret to getting the shade he calls “Barbie blonde” doesn’t break the bank.

“So you guys are always asking what color I used,” Appleton captioned his Insta pic of Jenner sporting a black tracksuit and wavy waist-grazing strands, “so see below!”

To get the blonde just right, the hair guru explained that he mixed the $16 Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Tint in Tweet (a semi-permanent goldenrod yellow) with the $16 Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Mixer in Dilute (a silvery purple that tones down any semi-permanent color it is combined with).

“I love to use Lime Crime’s Unicorn Hair to tone Kylie’s hair,” Appleton said in a statement. “The formula has no chemicals, so it made her hair look beautiful and feel like silk. Not to mention, gold blonde is making a comeback. It’s great fun and such a pretty color.”

The conditioning formulas are DIY-friendly, and the hairstylist recommends working in one-inch sections, applying color evenly from root to tip with an applicator brush and massaging each strand with your fingers to ensure even distribution of color. Let the tints sit for 45 minutes (no cap or heat required) before rinsing — sans shampoo! — with lukewarm water.

Since the Lime Crime color doesn’t contain bleach, the tints work best in pre-bleached platinum to light blonde hair. And, when it comes to keeping strands bright between appointments, the mane man is a fan of Color Wow conditioning and protecting products.

“To maintain the color, I used Color Wow’s Kale Cocktail to reinforce the bonds of the hair. This is really important to keep the hair in the best condition after a major transformation,” he says. “To finish, I layered the hair evenly with Color Wow’s Dream Coat and hit it with a blow-dryer to give the hair a perfect glossy finish.”
