Faux real! It’s no secret that Kylie Jenner loves her wigs. The Lip Kit creator, 18, isn’t afraid to change things up and has worn one in nearly every color of the rainbow. Now, her hair stylist is sharing the secrets behind the Keeping Up With the Kardashian star’s fab faux tresses. In a video on Jenner’s app, Stylez demonstrated his method to properly applying a wig. With a little bit of patience and a few products, a lacefront wig can look like the real deal.
To achieve this, Stylez advises advises making sure that your hair is damp, not wet, before applying hair gel, then brushing it back and assembling it into a French braid. A braid lies flatter than a ponytail and creates more volume in the back, according to Stylez. After securing the braid with a bobby pin, place a nude stocking cap over your head, tucking your loose strands underneath with a rattail comb.
Once your hair is underneath the cap, put the wig on and cut the lace around the hairline using small shears. Take the wig off and use a few pieces of double-sided wig tape along the hairline of the piece.
“As you peel each piece back side off, you just lay it completely flat to the head,” Stylez says. “But before you do that, you always want to make sure that you wipe the scalp along the hairline with alcohol first. Otherwise the tape won’t stick.”
Also, make sure the wig is two centimeters in front of your actual hairline before taking the tape off. “Otherwise you’ll look like Planet of the Apes!” Stylez jokes.
After placing the tape, use a blow-dryer on cool to adhere the tape to your hairline. Using a few more pins, flip the bottom of your wig and secure it to braid that’s already in place. Style it the way you like, and kill it like Kylie!
