Meghan Markle is the newly minted Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, but she stayed true to her low-key California girl roots with her elegant and understated beauty and hair look for her wedding ceremony on Saturday, May 19, at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The bride wore a simple, yet sophisticated custom Givenchy Haute Couture wedding gown with a bateau neckline designed by Clare Waight Keller — a timeless dress that was sculptural, sleek and true to the bride’s signature style. But while her dress may have been structured and formal, Markle kept things low key with natural, glowing makeup and a chic but slightly undone chignon.

Her beauty look came courtesy of longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin (clients include Elisabeth Moss and Jessica Alba) who crafted a simple and natural makeup style that highlighted her beautiful features without making her look overdone. And as always when it comes to Meghan, her skin was glowing, her cheeks were subtly sculpted with bronzer and her lashes were fluttery and feminine. The twist: normally Markle wears a peachy nude glossy lip  but for her wedding, Martin painted her pout with a true soft pink lipstick for a hint of bridal brightness. The best part: Markle’s freckles (which she has been outspoken about loving) were visible!

As for her tresses, Markle enlisted Serge Normant (who works with the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Julia Roberts)  to pull back her envy-inducing glossy strands into a low chignon with her signature center part and loose pieces at the front. Think formal updo with a cool-girl casual twist — a more elegant version of her laid back low bun that has turned heads over the last few months. This was the perfect hairstyle for her romantic Givenchy veil that was embroidered with all of the flowers of the commonwealth as well as the exquisite finishing touch: the Queen Mary bandeau tiara.
