Most Stylish New Yorkers 2012: Josh Elliott

Josh Elliot arrives at Us Weekly's 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers of 2011  Ivan Nikolov/

Name: Josh Elliott

Occupation: TV anchor

Wardrobe Wake-up: Moving to the New York City area in 1998 made the California native rethink his get-dressed routine. "My sense of style definitely developed here," says Elliott, who anchors both Good Morning America (weekdays at 7 a.m. on ABC) and Good Afternoon America (weekdays at 2 p.m. on ABC). "I just think about it a little more. I'll swallow the bullet and put a coat on, I'll think of another piece to add to an outfit. I'll consider the shoes I'm wearing. I take some chances and I've definitely tried to add some sophistication to my looks."

Low-fuss Looks: "I'm extraordinarily casual," says Elliott, 41, whose off-camera staples include cargo shorts by J. Crew or Banana Republic ("It's partly out of need and being able to carry my items, ever since someone got together and decided that guys couldn't carry satchels of any kind"); Reef flip-flops ("They will be on my feet until it snows"); and vintage T-shirts ("I have two that are from my first year of college. I'm not sure how they did but they made it this long"). Of course his closet does contain one big-ticket item: "I bought a black suede Prada blazer at Neiman Marcus in San Francisco. It was more money than I've ever spent on a piece of clothing in my life. I hated myself almost immediately. It's been over a year and I'm just starting to accept that it was a fine purchase to make!"

Seeking Shade: "Sunglasses are my bi-weekly purchase," says Elliott, who often picks them up at NYC bargain mecca Century 21. "I grab classic aviators because they are the only ones that look good on me. But if they aren't literally tied to me I will find a way to break or lose them pretty quickly."

Browsing Bummer: "I hate to shop. Because it's either — I got there, but the other 6-foot-5 guy got there first, or they don't have my size," says Elliott, who usually has luck at Barney's New York or Theory. And while he loves Ferragamo, shoes, Elliott isn't a fan of shopping in Italy. "For years my splurge vacation was to go to Rome, and it's just depressing because they don't have clothes for men who grow over 6 feet, apparently."

Quote: "George Clooney just does it right. He does less is more better than anyone. White shirt with the collar open, that to me is just timeless. It will always be cool. He sets the path for us to walk."
