Let's hear it for all the girls! Nike Women changed the game on Thursday, July 14, when it promoted sports bra fit knowledge by sharing pics of women of all shapes and sizes in their athletic gear.
While slender bodies often dominate sportswear campaigns, Nike Women posted two pics featuring fuller-figured ladies, flaunting their gorgeous curves in just sports bras and leggings — and the internet was overjoyed.
The reactions ranged from simple but sweet — "Stunning 😍," one commenter wrote — to the emotional: "Thank you so much, I finally started to accept my body, & you doing this helps me feel even better about myself @nikewomen."
Another thankful commenter wrote, "@nikewomen! We are strong, we are fit, we are fierce, we deserve apparel that fits our diverse range of shapes and sizes. You might just earn my loyalty yet."
And one more exclaimed, "[This model] is a queen, this is so inspirational @nikewomen – one of the only places to not have an extra small model and this SLAYS!!!! Positive marketing, I'm going to go and buy myself a Nike sports bra now! X"
One of the two stunners featured is Paloma Elsesser, an NYC-based model signed under Muse Management's plus-size division. She can be seen raising her arms over her head — the best way, Nike says, to determine if you're wearing the right size bra for you.
That said, some commenters were still disappointed. While they were happy to see plus-size models in Nike clothing, they lamented the fact that the brand's Nike Pro Rival and Nike Pro Hero bras (i.e. the ones pictured) are only available up to an E cup.
"This is promising @nikewomen," one commenter shared, but added, "I'm a size 12 and can't even wear any of your sports bras. 😞 Keep working on providing the plus sized women options, but us regular sized girls need some options as well!"
