The perks and perils of being Pippa! Duchess Kate's little sister Pippa Middleton — and her rear — became a worldwide star at the royal wedding back in April 2011, when the Maid of Honor wore a curve-enhancing Alexander McQueen dress. Giving her first public speech on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at an event in London, the 30-year-old author was frank and good-natured about her unexpected fame and infamy.
"As I have found out, recognition has its upside, its downside and – you may say – its backside," Middleton cracked as the audience (which included mum Carole Middleton) looked on.
"It was unbelievable how open she was – I don't think anyone was expecting that," a guest at the dinner, which was held at the Savoy Hotel by the Women in Advertising and Communications London group, told the Daily Mirror. "She came across as really grateful for the opportunities but also talked about the pitfalls of her position," the observer added.
The younger Middleton was equally frank with the crowd about the less-than-rapturous reception of her entertaining book, Celebrate, admitting that it was "difficult" to read the negative reviews. She was dropped by her American publisher, Viking Press, after selling just 18,000 copies of her book.
In her personal life, Pippa has been happily dating handsome British stockbroker Nico Jackson since early last year.
