The Prince of Wales, who just celebrated his 30th birthday, attended the WellChild Awards in London on Monday, Sept. 22. And when he bent down to play with the children in attendance, the royal showed off not only his sweet side, but his stylish side, too.

On bended knee, it was easy to see that the Sandhurst graduate, clad in $2,455 John Lobb lace-ups, had a secret on the soles of his shoes: the letter “H” for the Prince’s first name had been nailed into each oxford’s arch, adding a personalized touch.

But the second lieutenant wasn’t on-hand to prove his style credibility: Prince Harry joined in the festivities at the awards ceremony so that he could meet the sick children and their families honored by WellChild. During the event, the red-headed royal read cards from the children, made especially for him, and encouraged the brave young patients to keep fighting to stay healthy.
