Bad gal, fierce sunglasses! Taking her relationship with Dior one step further, Rihanna is collaborating on a line of sunglasses with the French fashion house, the label announced on Tuesday, May 24.
The “This Is What You Came For” singer, 28, designed one futuristic frame that will be available in six colors: silver, pink, blue, green and red, which will retail for $840, plus a 24-karat gold-plated edition for $1,950. The “Rihanna” collection will be sold exclusively at Dior stores starting in June.
Citing Star Trek‘s visor-wearing lieutenant, Geordi La Forge, as her source of inspiration in a release, Rihanna explained, “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.”
The Grammy-winning artist continued, “The process was pretty seamless. I spent a day at Dior with their eyewear design team. I started by looking through all the archives to see what they’ve done in the past, then got acquainted with all the new materials. I literally sat there and drew and drew until I was happy with the design, and the team illustrated it for me right then and there.”
Dior CEO Sidney Toledano added, “We are very pleased to partner for the second time with Rihanna. She is an artist, an entertainer, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist and a style icon for today’s generation.”
The “Rihanna” sunglasses collection marks the Barbadian pop star’s second collaboration with Dior. (Last summer, she starred in a short film for the brand.) This is also a landmark moment for Dior, as it’s the first time one of its celeb ambassadors, who include Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence, is designing for the label.
