Salma Hayek: My Acne Sent Me Into a “Severe Depression”

Salma Hayek may own her own cosmetics brand today, but the actress admits that the road to A-list skin was a long and tumultuous one.

“I had acne. And this acne was so bad, it sent me into a severe, severe depression. Like I couldn’t leave the house,” the actress, 45, reveals in an interview with April’s Lucky magazine.

“I’d wake up in the morning and lie there and touch my face before I got up, just to prepare myself to look in the mirror,” she reminisces about the painful days in her 20s. “The next stage with that sort of depression is food: too little, or too much. Guess what I did? I mean, I was fat and broken out, I couldn’t leave the house and I couldn’t pay the rent!”

The buxom beauty, whose cosmetics line is called Nuance Salma Hayek and is sold at CVS, also addresses the hot-in-Hollywood topic of Botox.

“Trust me  — I’ve been tempted, but I resist!” she proclaims. “Plus, if you freeze a muscle in your face, other muscles have to compensate! And once you stop, what does that look like?”

This isn’t the first time the Puss in Boots star has opened up about the fillers on which many of her film colleagues rely. In November, she told Latina magazine that the whole process freaks her out to no end.
