Shailene Woodley Uses This Vegetable as Lipstick: Find Out Her Natural Beauty Tip!

Shailene Woodley explained why she uses beets for red lipstick to Bon Appetit.

We thought she was just a lip-balm-and-go kind of girl!  

Shailene Woodley has never been shy about her natural beauty tips (oil-pulling anyone?), and her latest eco-friendly bombshell explains how she gets a red carpet-ready rouge pout — without traditional lipstick.

"Beets are amazing," The Insurgent actress, 23, told Bon Appetit. "If you roast them you'll get a better lipstick."

The mandatory prep process helps the vibrant hue show on the lips. "They're not as potent and they don't stain the same way if they're raw," she explained. "So I roast them first and then just dab a little of the juice on my lips with my finger."

Woodley also revealed that she does her own beet-hunting, too. "No matter where I am, I always seek out farmers' markets and locally sourced co-ops," she said. "I love going to actual farms even more."

The self-proclaimed herbalist finds uses for other natural ingredients including coconut oil, mushrooms, and berries, and one herb if she's under the weather. "In the morning, if you wake up and your respiratory system feels a bit off, thyme is a great cure for that," she said. "It's an easy remedy, considering most of us have thyme in our kitchens. You make a tea out of it."
