Steal Shakira’s Latin Grammy’s Updo

The chignon is making a comeback. This past week, Us Weekly style director Sasha Charnin Morrison and I have been astonishingly drawn to this look — a modern twist with long, face framing bangs. It suddenly looks so fresh.

And now Shakira rocked it on the Latin Grammy Awards red carpet, done by one of my all time favorite stylists Andy Lecompte (Hello! Mane man to Madonna! Nicole Richie! Ali Larter, too!)

To create the look, Lacompte prepped Sharkia's wet hair with a light leave-in conditioner with hold, then blow dried sections on a round brush to boost volume. He then added texture to hair with a spritz of sea-salt-based waving spray to keep the look modern — not too stiff or retro.

Leaving the front sections out, he rolled the rest of hair into a loose chignon, fastening with bobby pins. To keep the look fresh, he pulled out a few pieces around the chigon and wrapped them on a 1" curling iron for a fun twist. The finishing touch? A mist of hairspray to set the style.
