Defending her honor! Swizz Beatz loves Alicia Keys with or without makeup, as he proved in a Tuesday, August 30, Instagram. The producer, 37, slammed the critics who judged Keys for going barefaced at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

“This is deep. Somebody sitting home mad because somebody didn’t wear makeup on their face. Not your face, but they didn’t put makeup on their face because they just didn’t feel like wearing makeup,” he vented. “But you mad because that person didn’t put on makeup to please you? Type of s–t is this? ’Cause you can do whatever you wanna do. She didn’t tell y’all don’t wear no makeup. She just said that she’s not vibin’ with the makeup all the way 100 percent like that. That’s kinda her thing that she wanna do.”

For the record, the trolls are late to the party. Though Keys, clad in a red and black Just Cavalli dress, looked just as stunning as her red carpet counterparts who wore full faces, Keys has been scaling back on makeup for months now. The “In Common” singer, 35, explained why she’s going without glam in a May 2016 LennyLetter.com essay. After a stripped-down photo shoot, where a photographer persuaded her to skip the makeup chair, the experience was “the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt,” she said. “I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”

Beatz, who shares sons Egypt, 5, and Genesis, 20 months, with Keys, urged the naysayers to adapt a similar outlook. “You must be mad at a lot of s–t,” he concluded in the video. “You better look in that mirror and get that ass fixed ’cause if you mad at somebody else for not putting makeup on their face as their decision, you got a lot of work to do in life, and we all do, but you sure do.”
