Mindy Kaling‘s Tory Burch Suede Messenger Bag ($525, toryburch.com) is a total mess — and she’s proud of it!
“I’m suspicious of women who have really neat bags,” The Office actress tells Us Weekly. “It shows they have too much free time!”
Below, the author of Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) ($25, amazon.com) gives Us a peek inside her chaotic carryall. See what the 32-year-old has to say about her must-haves.
“I always like a statement wallet. I carry a black bag at night so I need a neon or a bright color.” Kaling’s bright green Marc by Marc Jacobs envelope wallet (marcjacobs.com) does the trick.
“I’m not pregnant, but my hairstylist suggested I take prenatal vitamins. They really scare the boys, but it’s worth it. I have fine hair but it’s incredibly thick now.”
“I have a pair of these great purple Dita sunglasses ($325, ditalegends.com) with giant lenses that make me look like a bug. I think they’re really fun. It’s fun to look like a bug, right?”
“I always keep a pair of Tory Burch Eddie Ballet Flats ($178, toryburch.com) in my bag, because I’ll go to events in heels and on the way back, I’ll want to just throw on my flats.”
“For my birthday, I ordered myself a necklace of my Twitter handle, @mindykaling, from Survival of the Hippest. I was going to bling it out, but only Nicki Minaj could pull that off!”
Since she doesn’t carry a cosmetic case, Kaling houses her look-good essentials within the various pockets of her tote. Her beauty loot includes: Tom Ford Lip Color in Black ($48, bergdorfgoodman.com), Benefit Silky Finish Lipstick in Breathless ($18, sephora.com), T. LeClerc Pressed Powder in Abricot ($50, barneys.com), Kate Somerville Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 55 ($45, nordstrom.com), a travel size Mason Pearson Hair Brush ($99, beauty.com) and a CVS chapstick ($2.99, cvs.com). “I heard that if you get a specialty chapstick that has different medical components in it, you get addicted to it and that scared me. So I buy the really cheap ones.”
“I also carry two lip glosses named after my friends from designer Charlotte Ronson‘s makeup line: Sophia and Samantha ($15 each, sephora.com). They hold sentimental value for me.”
As for her eye makeup, both Kaling and her on-screen character Kelly Kapoor rely on Urban Decay’s Naked Eye Shadow Palette ($48, sephora.com). “It has every conceivable color you ever need. You can do a nighttime eye with it. You can do a daytime eye. It’s amazing.”
