When Kate Bosworth was spotted with bright blue-green hair back in August, it was assumed that the blonde beauty was just the latest celeb to jump on the summer’s crazy-colored highlights trend.

But in a new interview on StyleCaster.com, the real reason behind the Straw Dogs actress' daring hair look has been revealed.

Bosworth explained that she and celebrity stylist Cher Coulter (who also happens to be the star’s BFF) were working together on an edgy editorial shoot for StyleCaster. "The blue hair came about because we both really loved the pink hair from Givenchy's [Fall 2010 ad campaign]," she told the fashion site. "We were both attracted to that kind of faded color look, but because pink had already been done we thought to do a faded blue and make it a little different — kind of pay homage to that slight grunge-y look."

In addition to experimenting with her hair, the 28-year-old also has an undeniable flair for style, which is why she helped launched JewelMint.com, a members-only accessory boutique with a huge celeb following, in 2010.

"Cher and I sat around and thought, 'Gosh, I don't really wear much everyday jewelry, why is that?' And then we realized it's because the price point for innovative jewelry really starts at about $400, and if you go to the price point of $30 for jewelry it's just watered down, not very inspired pieces," Bosworth said. "So, we thought if we could take that price point and make pieces that look vintage or things that we would want to wear, we would really have something."
