Who knew a few frequent hairstyle switch-ups could cause such controversy?
Zendaya Coleman felt it important to discuss her changing looks in a video shared via Instagram on Saturday, March 28, after attending the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.
“So many people get stressed out every time I wear a different hairstyle on the red carpet, it’s called a wig people — W-I-G — say it with me now, ‘wig,'” she joked in the clip which actually spelled out the three-letter word.

The K.C. Undercover star, 18, stepped onto the orange carpet earlier that day in a yellow striped DKNY ensemble with Stuart Weitzman sandals, with her hair styled in a tightly curled bob. A few commenters under the Instagram picture compared the edgy ‘do to Dora the Explorer, but Zendaya quickly corrected them. “Giving Queen Cleopatra+EdnaMode+ 70’s realness,” she captioned a follow-up shot.
For the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Sunday, March 29, the hair chameleon (in Fausto Puglisi) switched it up again, sporting a long half-up style, which fell into loose waves that hit the top of her tailbone.

Though joking in the video, Zendaya’s hair has been the source of inadvertent controversy before. Her regal faux-locks ignited a firestorm after the Oscars 2015, when E! Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic said she thought they could have “smelled like weed.” Her statement led to the resignation of co-host Kelly Osbourne, and a resulting hiatus period to restructure the show’s format.
For the Grammy Awards 2015 on Feb. 8, Zendaya forced onlookers to do a double take when she debuted a pixie that most people mistook for a super-short haircut. The star was back to sporting her natural brown long locks just days later during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
