On Tuesday, June 5, iconic contemporary fashion designer Kate Spade passed away at the age of 55 from an apparent suicide. Spade made a monumental contribution to the accessories and handbags industry — with her styles becoming a cult favorite in the ‘90s — not to mention, a significant contribution to fun, playful and feminine womenswear for ladies across the world. Her namesake line, Kate Spade, was sold to Liz Claiborne in 2007 and the designer left the company shortly thereafter. More recently, Spade had started a new contemporary venture, Frances Valentine, named for her daughter.
