The country singer turned pop phenom went from long blonde curls and bedazzled boots in 2008 to a sleek blonde bob and a predilection for crop tops since moving to NYC in 2014. "I can look back at an old photo and tell you roughly what year it's from," Swift told Vogue in 2016. "Going through different phases is one of my favorite things about fashion. I love how it can mark the passage of time. It’s similar to my songs in that way — it all helps identify where I was at in different points of my life."
While Lopez, who famously donned a Versace dress so plunging at the 2000 Grammys that it inspired the creation of Google Images, still embraces her self-proclaimed "street" roots, she's gravitated toward a softer look in recent years. Still, as she told Complex in 2015, "'I’m not allowed to be sexy because I’m a mom? It’s like, how do you think I got my children?"
The Lip Kit queen introduced more mature styles into her wardrobe as she got older — and famously started enhancing her pout in 2014. But she admitted to Allure in 2016, "I definitely made my lips a little too big at one point… I got excited and felt like I needed to do a lot. And then you guys were like, 'Kylie, you need to chill.' I had to go back and have it fixed, and it was a crazy process."
The Oscar-winning actress and philanthropist used to channel her inner Morticia Addams on the red carpet (including at the Academy Awards in 2000) before turning to elegant, flowing (and yes, often leg-flaunting) dresses — but the mom of six doesn't spend too much time thinking about it. "I don't think about beauty. I wake up and I want to be a smarter person, that's my focus…" Jolie told 60 Minutes in 2012. "I'm [certainly] encouraging my girls that if they can make their inside and who they are really, really stunning, then everything falls together."
The former Fashion Police host has always loved a bold hairstyle — she's been rocking lavender locks since 2012 — but her style has become more understated (with still a touch of her trademark sass) through the years. "My style is me," she told Reuters in 2016. "It's a reflection of how I feel and think and I do not dress for anyone else; never have, never will."
Like all of her sisters, Khloé Kardashian has really stepped up her style game in recent years, trading in her late-aughts bandage dresses for Balmain and the like. But her true revelation has been her incredible toned "revenge body," a hard-earned kiss-off to the haters that she first debuted in 2015. "I definitely think the fashion industry, and people in general, look at me more now that I've lost weight," she told Harper’s Bazaar in 2016. "Even on shoots, I would never have options for clothing. There would always be this attention on Kourtney and Kim, but I was too much work for [stylists] or they had nothing in my size. I wasn't even that crazy big!"
The House of Harlow 1960 designer preferred barely there numbers during her Simple Life days in 2003 before launching her fashion line in 2008 and becoming a certifiable fashion icon. But when she was asked about her love for all things Von Dutch on Fashionably Late With Rachel Zoe in 2015, Richie happily explained her rationale for wearing the label's famously colorful caps: "Because truckers don't give a f--k and neither do I!"
The Steve Jobs actress, who traded in her brocade dresses of the 1997 Titanic era for flawlessly tailored gowns that showcase her curves, has said it herself (at the expense of her twice-costar and BFF, Leonardo DiCaprio): She keeps getting better with age. "We do look very different, we’re older. Leo’s 37, I’m 36 – we were 21 and 22 when we made [Titanic]," she told Daybreak in 2015, then added, "You know, he’s fatter now – I’m thinner!"
The Oscar-winning actress has gone from cargos to couture, an evolution she's quite proud of. "I don't remember the film 'Good Boy,'" she captioned the #FBF shot from 2003 via Instagram in 2016, "but I did attend the premiere in flip flops, camo capris and a Von Dutch hat — for that I am forever grateful."
The Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer went from "the little Gucci dress" in the '90s to bomber jackets and low-slung jeans in the aughts, to crisp, #girlboss ensembles, often from her own eponymous line. "I don't follow fashion and I don't follow trends," she told i-D in 2012. "I just follow my instincts and what do I want to wear? What am I feeling for next season?"
