"Katy's VMA look tonight was quintessential Katy: bright red lips, black liquid liner and big lashes," celeb makeup artist Jake Bailey told Us. To achieve the look, he created a cat eye with CoverGirl Bombshell Intensity Liner and intensified her lashes with the brand's Bombshell Volume Mascara. On the "This Is How We Do" singer's lips, Bailey applied LipPerfection Lip Color in Hot 305 and Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame for a metallic sheen.
"Lucy is pulling double duty with walking the VMA carpet and hosting the pre-show for MTV," celeb makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan told Us. She applied darker shades from the Mark On the Dot Neutral Eye Color Compact on the outer corners and the lighter hues on the inner part. To define the eyes, Deenihan smudged a darker color on the bottom lash lines, applied waterproof eyeliner in black and finished with Mark Lash Act Mascara in Blackest Black.
"The back of Nina’s dress had an intricate and cool design with a tassel tie hanging from the back, and we wanted to be able to show that off," celeb hairstylist Riawna Capri told Us. To achieve height around the bangs, she put her hair in rollers and sprayed with Garnier Fructis Volumizing Anti-Humidity Hair Spray. Capri then gathered the hair into a high pony, wrapped a braided piece of hair around the elastic and curled the ends vertically.
Before her risque show-opening "Anaconda" and "Bang Bang" performance, Minaj wore a more subtle (wardrobe malfunction free!) style on the red carpet. With her dazzling animal print mini and platform pumps, she stunned with neutral makeup and gorgeous retro side-parted waves.
The "Shower" singer, looking glam in bustier top and studded skirt, rocked major lashes with CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara and a wet pout courtesy of CoverGirl Colorlicious Lipgloss in Berrylicious 710. "We wanted something with a great color payout and also lustrous vibrant shine for the carpet," celeb makeup artist Sarah Uslan told Us.
