Proving there is nothing she cannot do, Serena Williams made her triumphant return to Grand Slam tennis this week at the 2018 French Open *and* launched her very own clothing and accessories line, aptly named Serena. The 12-piece collection, which will expand in future seasons, features cozy but cool knits, cute dresses and even a logo pin that the 23-time major winner designed to be inclusive and inspiring for all women.
“They say life is about timing. I learned this lesson at age 18, when I chose to play a light tennis schedule because I wanted to go to fashion school. Some criticized my decision, but I knew I had two loves — tennis and fashion — and had to find a way to make them coexist,” she wrote in an Instagram post announcing the line. “After 15 years of false starts, and people in fashion telling me ‘no,’ it only only drove me to work harder. As a result, I discovered what it meant to invest in myself, and I allowed that belief in myself to drive me to reach my dream. Today, I am proud to launch @serena, my own online shop. Never stop believing in yourself, you’re worth it.”
While Serena has collaborated on collections with HSN and Nike in the past, this marks her first solo endeavor. The ever-fashionable pro, who is currently wearing the most epic superhero-inspired catsuit at the French Open, told WWD that the styles are meant to instill confidence and encourage women to be themselves.
“The customer is a girl or a woman who believes in herself or wants to believe in herself,” she said. “Our woman is someone who looks at fashion as a compass to show who they are, to show what they are.”
Priced between $15 and $250 dollars and available exclusively on serenawilliams.com, the debut collection includes everything from chic joggers to a sexy slip dress (i.e. something for everyone). Keep scrolling to see our favorite pieces!
