Bold lip fans, take note! Just because the mercury is rising you don't have to put away your favorite berry, burgundy, and oxblood lip colors.

Even though vampy lipsticks tend to hibernate like knee-high boots during the spring, celebs like Kim Kardashian, Hilary Duff, and Freida Pinto have all worn dark shades recently. "Mahogany lips actually suit all skin tones and eye colors since those shades are both cool and warm on the color wheel," celebrity makeup artist Rae Morris tells Us Weekly.

"Matte lip colors will look more modern," Morris says. "But if you're hesitant to go that dark, try a berry lip gloss instead."

To avoid going overboard, pare down the rest of your makeup. "Keep your eyes simple with lots of mascara, winged eyeliner and maybe a wash of shimmery dust," advises Morris, who has worked with Miranda Kerr, Cate Blanchett, and Jessica Biel.

Since the berry family can emphasize skin imperfections like pimples or under-eye bags, apply foundation or a tinted moisturizer—and resist too much blush. "I love to just contour the cheeks with a hint of a matte bronze powder under the cheekbone," Morris tells Us.
