Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto is an Indian actress known for her breakout role as Latika in Slumdog Millionaire and for films including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Immortals and Love Sonia. Pinto spent her childhood in Mumbai, India. She attended Carmel of St. Joseph School in Mumbai before graduating from St. Xavier’s College with a degree in English literature.

Pinto began modeling professionally in 2005 with Elite Model Management India and worked as a television presenter on the travel show Full Circle. Her major break came when director Danny Boyle cast her as Latika in Slumdog Millionaire (2008). The film earned her a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. She was also nominated for a BAFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

After Slumdog Millionaire, Pinto went on to appear in You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger (2010), Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), Immortals (2011), Trishna (2011), Knight of Cups (2015) and Love Sonia (2018), among other projects. Her later credits include Hillbilly Elegy (2020), Intrusion (2021), Mr. Malcolm’s List (2022) and My Mother’s Wedding (2023).

Pinto was previously engaged to Rohan Antao before their relationship ended in 2009. She later dated her Slumdog Millionaire costar Dev Patel from 2009 to 2014. In 2020, she married photographer Cory Tran. The couple welcomed their son, Rumi-Ray, in 2021.
