Retro beauty! Lupita Nyong’o looked radiant at the 2016 Tony Awards in NYC on Sunday, June 12.

The Eclipsed star, 33, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, rocked fresh-faced glam that was influenced by a totally rad decade: the ’80s.

“[Nyong’o’s] makeup was classic Whitney Houston ’80s glamorous neutrals,” celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose told Us Weekly. “[I used] interesting shades that are not necessarily neutrals — like navy on eyes and soft coral on lips — but the effect read classic and glamorous.”

And perfect for warm June nights. “The look is fresh and summery, with warm orange and coral tones playing off of Lupita’s Hugo Boss dress [and Tiffany & Co. earrings],” Barose explained. “[And the] softer [navy eyes] popped against her glowing skin.”

To achieve the look, the L.A.-based Lancome artist, who has also worked with Brie Larson and Kim Cattrall, prepped Nyong’o’s face with Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Concentrate Serum. He followed up with a mattifying primer and Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Makeup Stick in 550 Suede C for foundation. Afterward, concealer (Lancome Maquicomplet Complete Coverage Concealer in Deep Suede) and pressed powder (Lancome Translucence Mattifying Silky Pressed Powder in 550 Suede) evened out her skin tone. A subtle rum raisin–color blush and rose gold highlighter defined Nyong’o’s cheekbones.

For her eyes, Barose prepped the lids with Waterproof Eyecolour Base in 06 Sienne, then dusted translucent mattifying powder to set. “Across the whole lid, I used Lancome Color Design Sensational Effects Eyeshadow in Sapphire Lace (above left),” he noted. “Next, I lined her eyes with Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil in Parisian Night and Lancôme Grandiôse Liquid Liner in 01 Matte Black.” A healthy coat of black mascara topped off her vibrant neutral eyes.
