Facing the truth.
In a candid interview with Canada’s Fashion Magazine, Olivia Munn speaks out about the plastic surgery rumors that have floated around since the beginning of the year. The story describes the actress, 35, cringing at her own photo from an event for her latest film, Ride Along 2 — one that doesn’t look like her.
“Being multi-ethnic―I’m half Chinese, half white―brings up a whole set of complications that people don’t even think about when it comes to being photographed,” she told Fashion. “I have more of a white appearance on the outside, but my bone structure is very much Asian. I have high cheekbones and smaller eyes.”
She also points her finger at the makeup palette: “When you put shimmer on the inside of my eyes, I immediately look cross-eyed,” she continued. “If you put too heavy of an eyelash on me, it looks like my eyes are halfway closed.”
And although fans may question and criticize, Munn says that it’s all part of the game.
“As an actor, you can be completely transformative and take on different roles. As an individual in the world, it’s a totally different story―we live in a time where there’s so many pictures that bring so much scrutiny,” the X-Men actress explained. When your face changes because of makeup, it’s hard to let people know that you’re not actually doing surgery or fillers.
Besides genetics, Munn chalked up her changing appearance to losing 12 pounds, changing her eyebrow shape, getting rid of sunspots, and eating Japanese potatoes — a starch that’s high in an acid that keeps wrinkles away — in an Instagram post on February 23.
“Who says guys are the only ones who can get better with age?” she questioned.
